A Fluxus salute to the late Nam June Paik, the South Korean-born video artist who would turn 82 this week. Join us in the rotunda where, in the shadow of Paik’s Vide-O-belisk, a site-specific sculpture commissioned by the Memphis Brooks Musuem of Art in 2002, you’ll create art, drink wine, and listen to cellist Jonathan Kirkscey, who will perform music created for Paik’s Vide-O-belisk. This evening will also serve as the release party for Volume Two of The Paik Sessions, a music project curated by Brooks preparator Luis van Seixas. Afterwards, the program continues in the auditorium with screenings of three of Paik’s films featuring John Cage, Lou Reed, Allen Ginsberg, Charlotte Moorman, Joseph Beuys, Keith Haring, and Philip Glass.
Art: Design your own Vide-O-belisk inspired artwork using a retro TV photo frame, wire, and a photographic image created onsite by Amurica.
